Short Company Background

You may know Layla Sleep (or Layla Mattress) as the brand behind one of the best affordable mattresses made of memory foam, or perhaps you simply saw it on a best seller’s list. Either way, this is no coincidence.

Founded in 2016 by the Sheikh brothers, this company turns $9 million in revenue according to ZoomInfo—a noteworthy number considering the competitiveness of the US bed-in-a-box market.

This also means that there are a lot of Layla pillow reviews from users for us to scan for the most frequent complaints, the feel of the pillows, and the pillows’ leading positive points.

Layla Kapok Pillow Review (Original Layla Pillow)

Materials and Construction

Filling: Layla’s Kapok Pillow is filled with shredded memory foam and natural kapok fibers.

What are kapok fibers? The silky fibers that disperse the seeds of the kapok tree are natural cellulosic fibers that are lighter than cotton because they’re 80%–90% air.

Kapok fibers have oil-absorbing properties, and they repel moisture. Because of their insulation qualities, they’re also used to protect against sound and heat—properties discussed in the Layla Sleep pillow reviews left by perceptive customers.

Cover: The cover is made out of polyester, viscose, and lycra spandex that’s woven with CuTEC copper-infused yarn. But to what effect?

The main material of the pillow cover is designed to be breathable, smooth, and stretchy, whereas the copper yarn is there to reduce odors and kill off microorganisms (like mold and dust mites). The copper also helps conduct your body heat away from your face and neck. In this way, it not only prevents heat retention, but it actively contributes to the cooling effect.

Product Care: One of the important notes to mention when doing a Layla Kapok memory foam pillow review is that in order to wash the cover of the pillow, you’ll need to remove the filling and place it in another container. The process can be somewhat painstaking because the kapok fibers tend to fly away. To refresh the filling, you can tumble dry the whole pillow on a low or no-heat cycle.

You can also choose to machine-wash the whole pillow on the sensitive cycle, but if this results in any damage, your warranty will be voided. On the other hand, as confirmed by the Layla Kapok memory foam pillow reviews, dry-cleaning and spot-cleaning are both advisable, harmless ways of cleaning this pillow.

Feel

Medium-Soft: This Layla pillow is soft and supportive at the same time. We assume that the ratio between the memory foam filling and kapok fibers is responsible for this pillow’s harmonious softness.

Smooth and Moldable: You can shape this pillow as much as you like, and it will always follow your lead. What’s more, its density won’t allow for it to easily collapse and lose shape. As you might have already guessed from this Layla Sleep pillow review,  the responsiveness of this pillow is slow due to its memory foam filling.

Lofty: The Layla Kapok Pillow is quite high (around 7″), which is good news for pillow-snugglers. However, this isn’t to everyone’s liking. Luckily, anyone can easily modify the loft of the pillow by simply unzipping it and removing some of the filling to best fit their loft preference.

Breathable and Cool: Unlike other memory foam pillows, this pillow’s shredded memory foam and kapok fibers allow for extra breathability. Coupled with the effects of the copper, this gives a cooling and refreshing feel, confirmed by many copper-infused pillow reviews.

Advantages

  • Highly modifiable
  • Medium softness
  • Antimicrobial effect
  • CertiPur-US certified
  • Heat conduction cooling effect

Disadvantages

  • Pricey
  • Complicated cleaning process
  • Slowly responsive
  • Needs regular fluffing

Layla Memory Foam Pillow Review

Materials and Construction

Filling: Like the original Layla Pillow, the filling in this pillow is a mix of shredded open-cell memory foam, but the kapok fibers are replaced by low-density polyester fibers.

Cover: Another difference you’ll notice when comparing this to other Kapok Pillow reviews is that the Layla Memory Foam Pillow doesn’t have copper-infused yarn in the cover. Instead, it’s woven with a 100% highly breathable polyester fabric that is usually used in athletic clothing.

This pillow is designed with two covers—an inner and outer—which allows for a simpler pillow-care process. The inner liner is made of polyester-backed gel-infused memory foam.

Product Care: The pillow is entirely machine-washable on low-heat cycles. As a note, it’s been designed such that the outer cover can be removed easily and washed more frequently than the rest of the pillow.

However, if you choose to machine-wash the whole pillow, the only advice that we can give you in this Layla Sleep pillow review is to tumble-dry it twice afterward, preferably on a low-temperature program, to avoid the growth of mold and bacteria in any wet pockets.

Feel

Supportive: The down-alternative used in this pillow, the polyester fibers, gives it a firmer, supportive feeling compared to the kapok-filled pillow.

The Layla Memory Foam Pillow, measuring around 5″, is also less lofty than the original Layla Pillow.

However, much like the original, Layla Sleep pillow reviews from customers who bought the Memory Foam Pillow often say that this one also comes over-lofted. Since customers have the same method of adjusting the filling as with the Kapok Pillow, this should pose no problem.

Smooth and Soft: The double polyester covering on this pillow makes it smooth to the touch, but the overall feel is less moldable and less stretchy than the original Layla Kapok Pillow.

The responsiveness is the same as the Kapok Pillow, reviews attest, which is comparable but a touch superior to whole-block memory foam pillows.

Light and Breathable: This Layla pillow is satisfyingly breathable, and even though the heat conduction from the use of copper isn’t featured, it stays thermally neutral during the night. Unlike denser pieces of memory foam, which don’t allow uninterrupted airflow, the shredded memory foam and the polyester fibers allow for the air to circulate freely. This is how the pillow becomes more breathable.

Advantages

  • Double covers
  • Entirely washable
  • High support levels
  • Smooth
  • Light

Disadvantages

  • Warmer
  • Lacks natural material
  • Not fitted for stomach sleepers

Size Options

Layla Kapok Pillow

As we mentioned in the Layla Kapok memory foam pillow review, this pillow is incredibly lofty, measuring around 7″ in height when not compressed and about 4.5″ when compressed. This should give you a correct picture of its softness.

As far as other dimensions are concerned, the Layla Kapok Pillow comes in two sizes:

Queen Size: 18.5″ x 28.5″ x 7″, weighing 4 lbs

King Size: 18.5″ x 36″ x  7″, weighing 5 lbs

Layla Memory Foam Pillow

As you can see from the dimensions below, as confirmed in any Layla king pillow review, the Layla Memory Foam Pillow is 1.5″ longer than the original, but less lofty, and hence, lighter.

The Layla Memory Foam Pillow also comes in two sizes:

Queen Size: 20″ x 28″ x 4.5″, weighing 3.7 lbs

King Size: 20″ x 36″ x 4.5″, weighing 4.7 lbs

Customer Service

Layla Sleep has a Better Business Bureau rating of A+, showing that Layla’s customers are well taken care of. This rating doesn’t depend on Layla pillow reviews from customers referring to the customer service. Instead, it notes the absence of complaints and legal action taken against the company.

On the other hand, we noted only positive user reviews regarding Layla’s customer service. It’s apparent that customers are seamlessly walked through the return process and have any questions they might have answered.

The customer service can be reached through a chat service on the website, at 855-358-1676, or at [email protected] (Monday–Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.).

Terms of Sale

Trial Period and Return Policy

One of the strongest arguments we found in our Layla pillow review demonstrating the company’s confidence in its pillows is that its products come with a full three-month trial period (120 calendar days). This generous offer is conditioned only by a minimum trial period of two weeks to allow buyers to make an informed decision.

With the exception of the shipping fees to HI, AK, and Canada, Layla pillows can be returned completely free of charge. All you need to do to return a Layla Pillow is write an email to customer service where you’ll provide the order number and reason for your return.

Shipping Options

Another thing praised in Layla pillow reviews: shipping with Layla is free for all except for orders to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada.

The orders are shipped from San Fernando, CA, so customers receive their order within around 2–7 days, depending on their location. Tracking your order is also possible through the Layla website.

Warranty

Layla grants a generous five-year warranty on its pillows, which includes material durability and workmanship.

This means that the material should preserve properties like the color, loft, and shape under the standard use conditions. The craftsmanship guarantees that all of the parts assembled shouldn’t give way under normal use.

Prices

As mentioned in our Layla Sleep copper-infused pillow review, the original Layla pillow has a multi-component design that produces its unique feel—and the manufacturing process to achieve this is, of course, pricier.

Therefore, the costliest pillow from Layla is the king-sized Kapok Pillow, available for $119, while the queen size is $99. Now, before you dismiss the whole offer, remember you can always return the pillow if your expectations aren’t met.

The queen- and king-sized Layla Memory Foam Pillows are cheaper. You can order them for $55 and $69, respectively.

Those who are always searching for better deals can find Layla pillow coupon codes online or wait for an occasional price discount. Another option to consider is buying one of the memory foam or hybrid Layla mattresses that we also reviewed (if you need one, of course), which, more often than not, come with free Layla pillows.

Who Is a Layla Pillow Best Suited For?

Loft-seekers. If, for any personal preference or a medical condition, you need a higher-loft pillow, the Layla Kapok with its 7″ loft is the right solution.

Hot sleepers. As more than one copper pillow review shows, the copper’s presence as a heat conductor in the Layla Kapok Pillow doesn’t allow heat retention.

Side sleepers. The excellent full-loft design and the softness of Layla’s pillows are highly compatible with side sleepers. Depending on your body type, you’ll need to make little-to-no modifications to your pillow’s loft to sleep on your side.

Back sleepers. Both Layla pillows are modifiable to the point where you can choose your preferred loft up to the millimeter, as Layla Kapok memory foam pillow reviews attest. However, the Memory Foam Pillow is better fitted for back sleepers because of its slightly higher firmness level.

Stomach sleepers. For stomach sleepers who like a softer, stretchier, huggable pillow, the Kapok Pillow will be a better choice. For those who prefer firmness to a certain extent even when sleeping on their stomach, the Memory Foam Pillow can provide it. Either way, users will probably need to remove a significant amount of the filling to achieve the right loft.

Who Should Look Elsewhere and Why?

Firm support-seekers. Layla pillow reviews show that these pillows are on the softer side of the firmness spectrum, so if you need firmer support for your head and neck when you sleep, Layla pillows are not right for you.

Petite sleepers. Even though both Layla pillows have an adjustable loft, their dimensions are still big for petite sleepers. You can end up with a weirdly shaped pillow after removing most of the pillow’s filling. Thus, petite sleepers will not only need a smaller loft but smaller dimensions too.

Those who prefer a bouncy pillow. As we mentioned in our Layla Sleep pillow reviews, the reactiveness (bounciness) of both the Layla Kapok Pillow and Layla Memory Foam Pillow is low. So those who like their pillow to be somewhat bouncy should definitely look elsewhere.

Layla Pillow Review Summary

Layla Sleep has a master knowledge of memory foam designs, a fact confirmed by its quality mattresses. In fact, Layla’s products made our list of the best memory foam mattresses for 2020.

We could also feel the expertise of these bedding designers through Layla’s pillows, which although available in only two versions, are extremely adjustable for every type of sleeper.

When it comes to the copper pillow, reviews rank it higher because of its heat-conductive and anti-microbial properties. These features are perfect for hot sleepers searching for a traditional-looking and feeling pillow, as well as germaphobes.

All others who enjoy a lofty, moldable, very huggable pillow will also love the Kapok. Those who are on a budget and looking for an easy-to-clean, moderately firm, affordable pillow, will love the Memory Foam Pillow. The esthetic, copper technology, luxurious hexagonal design, shredded memory foam support, and natural fibers are all reasons to take these pillows on a whopping 120-day trial.

FAQs

What is the best pillow for 2020?

This is an individual choice, one that depends on your preferred sleep position, spinal health, firmness preference, and body type.

This is why highly adjustable pillows like Layla’s rank high on the lists for best pillows. For example, the original Layla Kapok Pillow ranked second on Sleep Advisor’s list for the best-rated pillows for 2020, right after the Nest Bedding Easy Breather.

How long do the Kapok Pillows last?

Layla Sleep gives a five-year warranty, and according to the company, the pillows should be good for at least 5–6 years before they begin to flatten. But given the generous loft that comes with them, this also shouldn’t pose any problem. If you remove a part of the filling, you can always return it to recuperate the lost loft.

Are Layla’s pillows toxic?

In short, no. The memory foam used by Layla Sleep is CertiPUR certified, which means it fulfills the rigorous criteria proving the absence of toxic materials in its structure, as well as the manufacturing process.

Why is the Layla Pillow’s cover infused with copper?

As many customers’ copper-infused pillow reviews reveal, the microbial properties in these products preserve this pillow’s freshness by absorbing odors and the microorganisms responsible for producing them. Furthermore, the copper’s heat conduction actively dissipates body heat and keeps the surface cool as you sleep.

Copper-infused yarn is only a speck of what Layla pillows have to offer in terms of sleep-aiding technology. Another good example is the kapok fiber filling, which is 100% natural, moisture-wicking, and thermally neutral, as we explained previously in our Kapok Layla Pillow review.
