Are you looking for a natural and eco-friendly mattress that won’t require a bank loan to afford? A great number of My Green Mattress reviews claim that this brand’s mattress selection satisfies all those requirements, and since “affordable organic mattress” sounds pretty unbelievable, we decided to check these claims.

Spoiler alert: the claims are true. The Green mattresses are all about comfort, support, and durability—without breaking the bank. Moreover, they’re GOTS, GOLS, and GREENGUARD certified, which means they’re made from organically grown, harvested, and processed materials, and they’re manufactured in an environmentally and socially responsible way. Users can trace all the materials to the original firms and lots where they were grown.

This sounds pretty impressive, so we’ve decided to test and review all My Green Mattress models. We tested every mattress in terms of construction, support, and the comfort it provides, and we’ve compared the prices.

My Green Mattress has an affordable mattress for every individual and their needs, so if you’re in the market for a new organic mattress, keep reading to find just the right one.

Company Background

My Green Mattress is a family-owned business. The idea for an all-natural organic mattress appeared when Tim Masters, the owner, found out his daughter had eczema and allergic reactions to the synthetic mattress she was sleeping on. He decided to help not only his daughter but everyone who struggled with this issue by creating the least toxic mattresses on the market.

All Green Mattresses are made from natural wool sourced locally from sheep raised and sheared in Southern Oregon and Northern California, organic cotton, and 100% natural Dunlop latex. Additionally, all the mattresses are handcrafted in Illinois.

My Green Mattress offers six mattresses designed for firm and flat surfaces, which makes them excellent floor mattresses. What’s more, the company makes latex toppers, protectors, and a platform bed to guarantee you’ll experience your best nights’ sleep.

My Green Mattress Reviews

Natural Escape Mattress Features

We’ll start this My Green Mattress review with the company’s most luxurious model, the Natural Escape. This mattress will give you the perfect balance between contouring support and springy bounce while providing you with the deep sleep you’ve been craving.

Construction

This 11″ thick hybrid mattress is made from three layers of foams and coils, topped with a quilted cover.

  • Cover: The cover is made from organic cotton. Besides being soft and gentle to the touch, it has a neutral, pleasant smell—unlike most synthetic mattresses—making it just about the best mattress without offgassing. However, the cover isn’t removable, so it’s best to use a mattress protector.
  • Comfort Layer: The comfort layer consists of a 3″ natural Dunlop latex foam, which is very durable and responsive.
  • Support Layer: The support layer consists of 8″ coils of three different sizes, placed strategically to provide the best lumbar support. The coils are individually wrapped so they’ll give better support to the hip and waist areas. Meanwhile, the coils around the perimeter of the bed are firmer to provide better edge support.

Firmness

If we compare My Green Mattress vs. Avocado, which is also an eco-friendly hybrid mattress, we’ll see that one of the primary differences is merely a more widespread familiarity with the latter brand.

The Natural Escape is a medium-firm mattress, about a 6 on a 10-point firmness scale (10 being firmest), which should be good for all types of sleepers, especially those on the heavier side. Still, the mattress is also quite bouncy and comfortable thanks to the latex layer.

We experienced minimal “hugging” from this mattress, and we had the feeling of lying on the mattress as opposed to sinking into it. Despite the firmness, we found that the cushiony feeling was excellent for switching positions during the night and getting out of bed.

Sinkage

As expected from innerspring mattresses, they bounce back almost instantly, and the My Green Mattress Natural Escape is no exception. At the top and bottom of the mattress, an average-sized person will sink about 6″, and in the middle of the bed, the sinkage is about 5″. This allows the mattress to conform to the lumbar area and provide even better support.

Support

As a whole, the mattress has three firmness comfort zones (the three coil sizes we mentioned) that provide superior support to the shoulders, waist, and hips. They’re positioned in the lower, middle, and upper third of the mattress, so you’ll feel fully supported.

Pressure Relief

Overall, the Natural Escape provides a feeling of being cradled. However, there are a few My Green Mattress complaints from lightweight stomach sleepers who felt pressure build up in their hip and waist areas.

Temperature Neutrality

The latex foam and coils provide good airflow, even though the mattress has no cooling features. Nevertheless, the Natural Escape won’t keep you hot during the night, as it maintains a neutral temperature.

Edge Support

Thanks to the coils in the support layer and the overall firmness, the Natural Escape has excellent edge support, so you’ll never have the feeling you’re about to roll off the bed. Moreover, Green Mattress reviews praise the Natural Escape as the perfect mattress for couples.

Motion Transfer

The Natural Escape’s motion transfer isn’t as good as most memory foam mattresses, but as far as hybrid mattresses go, it’s pretty solid. This means that if your partner moves around or has restless sleep, you’ll probably feel that movement slightly. Still, this motion transfer is so little, we believe couples won’t mind it.

Pros:

  • Good for all types of sleepers
  • Excellent pressure relief
  • Couples love it
  • Three firmness comfort zones
  • Stellar edge support

Cons:

  • Lightweight stomach sleepers might feel discomfort
  • Motion isn’t completely isolated

Hope Latex Mattress Features

If you’re concerned about EMFs and don’t want a mattress with inner springs, the Hope Latex is an excellent custom mattress. It’s made from organic latex produced from the sap of the rubber tree and is free from dangerous chemicals that cause off-gassing.

Construction

This 8″ thick mattress is made from three layers of latex and will be sent to your home compressed in a box. My Green Mattress reviews on the Hope Latex say it’s especially good for people who struggle with pressure points and suffer from conditions like arthritis and scoliosis, but let’s see what our team thinks about it.

  • Cover: The cover is made from organic cotton and temperature-regulating wool that acts as a natural flame retardant. My Green Mattresses are free from flame retardants or flame retardant barriers, polyurethane foams, and harmful chemicals, which only adds to the plush and comforting feeling in the cover.
  • Comfort Layer: The first Dunlop latex layer is soft and 2″ thick, and numerous Green Mattress reviews claim it provides great comfort and lumbar support.
  • Transition Layer: The second latex layer is 3″ thick and transitions into a firmer support layer that contours to the body. Depending on your weight and sleeping position, you may feel some compression or pushback.
  • Support Layer: The final 3″ latex layer is firm, providing stability and support to the whole bed.

Firmness

Just like the Natural Escape, the Hope Latex is also a medium-firm mattress, about 7 on a 10-point firmness scale. Combination sleepers’ reviews of My Green Mattress show they simply adore this model. This comes as no surprise as latex is a bouncy material, so combination sleepers are able to move around throughout the night.

Stomach and back sleepers also enjoy this mattress, while some side sleepers may want a slightly softer mattress to reduce pressure buildup in the shoulders or hips.

Sinkage

Thanks to the strategic lineup of latex layers, the Hope Latex provides firmness without being rigid and stiff. When an average-sized person is on the mattress, it sinks about 5.5″, which is less than the sinkage of the Natural Escape.

Support

The Hope Latex provides decent support for average-sized sleepers. However, some My Green Mattress reviews claim that the Hope Latex isn’t suitable for people over 250 lbs, even though Dunlop latex is known to be supportive and dense.

Pressure Relief

Although latex provides less hug than a memory foam mattress, it’s more buoyant, and it still provides sleepers with a pressure-relieving floating feeling.

Temperature Neutrality

Latex is famous for its cooling features, so if you sleep hot, you’ll be very pleased with the Hope Latex. It cools off much quicker than other mattresses, and it keeps you cool, which is essential for a night of deep sleep.

Edge Support

Spring-free mattresses don’t provide much edge support, but since latex is such a fantastic material, My Green Mattress reviews say that the Hope Latex makes up for this with its ability to keep you and your sleeping partner from sinking into the mattress—a feature memory foam mattresses lack, even though they have excellent edge support.

Overall, after testing the mattress, we believe that couples, co-sleepers, and people who like to sleep near the edge won’t even notice this.

Motion Transfer

Despite latex being a bouncy material, it’s excellent at preventing motion transfer. Even the most sensitive light sleepers won’t notice when their partner moves during the night or gets in and out of the bed.

Pros:

  • Hypoallergenic and non-toxic
  • Sleeps cool
  • Exceptional motion isolation
  • Decent support and pressure relief
  • Good for back pain, scoliosis, arthritis, and similar conditions

Cons:

  • Not a very thick mattress
  • Low edge support

Pure Echo Mattress Features

Next in our My Green Mattress review is the Pure Echo, the most popular and affordable of all My Green Mattresses. This latex-free pocketed coil innerspring mattress is an excellent choice if you’re concerned about latex allergies. It’s also good for children and teens, and it’s a great option if your guest bedroom needs a new mattress.

Construction

Made from 100% natural and organic cotton and wool, the Pure Echo is thinner than other mattresses at only 8″ thick, so it will fit nice and snug in your bed frame.

  • Cover: The 1″ cover is made from organic cotton, providing crisp smoothness to the mattress. However, if you prefer a more plush feel or even more comfort, you can purchase a 2″ My Green Mattress topper made from latex.
  • Comfort Layer: Below the cover is 1″ of pure wool, further enhancing the mattress’s softness. Wool’s moisture-wicking features help air to flow freely through the mattress, allowing the entire bed to stay cool all throughout the night.
  • Transition Layer: Providing comfort and a smooth transition to the next layer is the pocketed coil system. Each spring is coated to prevent structural damage, and they’re located from the top to the bottom of the mattress. The springs support the body and prevent the aches and pains you might feel after waking up.
  • Support Layer: The final layer consists of purely organic cotton batting that supports the whole bed and protects the spring coils. This layer opens up even more airflow, so the mattress stays cool from bottom to top.

Firmness

The Pure Echo may be the cheapest Green mattress, but it offers fantastic firmness, with a firmness level of about 7.5 on the 10-point firmness scale. This is an excellent option for back and stomach sleepers, as well as heavier people.

However, if you prefer much softer mattresses, you should check out the Helix Mattress, which can be customized to be as soft as you like.

Sinkage

Since the Pure Echo is a pretty firm mattress, we saw sinkage of only 2″ when an average-weight person lies on top of it. Despite this, the mattress provides great comfort and breathes well.

Support

While lying on the Pure Echo, we felt comforted and cushioned. The contouring support of the coiled springs is activated the second body weight is applied, providing good lumbar support and spine alignment.

However, if you weigh more than 230 lbs, you may need more support.

Pressure Relief

To review the My Green Mattress pressure relief properties, different types of sleepers from our team tried out both versions of the Pure Echo.

Stomach and back sleepers were more than satisfied with the pressure relief the Pure Echo provided. Individual coils react to the body, relieving joints and bones from pressure. However, side sleepers found this mattress to be too hard, placing too much pressure on their hips and shoulders.

Temperature Neutrality

Thanks to the natural cotton and wool and the spring coil system, air flows freely through the mattress. Thus, it provides you with a cool and dry sleeping surface, no matter the temperature of your body or the room you sleep in.

Edge Support

The Pure Echo provides outstanding edge support. The edge feels nice and secure to sit on, and we felt safe sleeping on the side. Furthermore, we found no My Green Mattress negative review regarding the edge support, which is why we believe couples would really like this mattress.

Motion Transfer

The Pure Echo reduces motion transfer to a minimum. You’ll probably feel slight motion when your partner gets into and out of the bed, but the mattress remains pretty still when someone rolls and changes positions.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Free from latex
  • Good for couples
  • Minimal motion transfer
  • Superb edge support

Cons:

  • Slightly thinner than other mattresses

Kiwi Mattress Features

Many My Green Mattress reviews highlight the Kiwi as another popular choice for children’s bedrooms. It comes in one- and two-sided models that are easy to flip and long-lasting. This hybrid has both Dunlop latex and spring coils, making it the perfect choice for lighter children or adults who want a more affordable mattress.

Construction

The combination of latex, natural wool and cotton, and pocketed springs combined into two layers makes the Kiwi a firm but contouring mattress for your growing children.

  • Cover: The natural wool and cotton quilted cover brings a soft and plush sensation while acting as a natural fire barrier with additional moisture-wicking properties.
  • Comfort Layer: The cotton and wool batting cover the natural Dunlop latex layer known for its body-contouring features. My Green Mattress reviews on the latex layer praise it for its hypoallergenic properties, responsiveness, and comfort.
  • Support Layer: The support layer consists of 682 pocketed coil springs designed to support both the mattress and your body, alleviating aches and pains and aligning your spine.
  • Optional Layer: The two-sided, flippable model offers an additional latex layer at an extra cost. Flippable mattresses offer the same comfort and edge support, but they’re longer-lasting.

Firmness

The Kiwi is a medium-firm mattress, and the firmness is the same for both the one- and two-sided models. On the 10-point scale, Kiwi’s firmness is around 7, making it good for all types of sleepers, even side sleepers.

Sinkage

Just like the My Green Mattress Natural Escape, the Kiwi is also an innerspring mattress, meaning that even though it bounces back quickly, there’s some sinkage. In the case of the Kiwi, the mattress sinks 5″–6″ when an average-sized person lies down.

However, we felt the mattress contour to our bodies, but we didn’t have the feeling of being swallowed by it.

Support

Each pocketed coil reacts to your body shape and weight to take the pressure off and prevent stiffness in your joints and bones. Furthermore, the latex layer also offers great support to your shoulders, hips, and waist.

Pressure Relief

Numerous reviews of My Green Mattress mention the Kiwi’s amazing pressure relief, especially for side and back sleepers. There are a few lighter stomach sleepers who felt pressure in the hips and waist. However, we believe that average-sized and heavier stomach sleepers won’t have that problem.

Temperature Neutrality

The pocketed coil system, in combination with the natural latex, provides good airflow, keeping the mattress cool and dry throughout the night despite the temperature of the room and your body.

Edge Support

No matter where you put this My Green Mattressbox spring, floor, solid platform, or an adjustable base—the Kiwi will provide superb edge support because its spring coils maintain the mattress’s overall firmness. No matter if you have a co-sleeping partner or you just like hugging the edge while you sleep, the Kiwi won’t make you feel like you’re about to fall off the bed.

Motion Transfer

As far as hybrid mattresses go, we can confirm in our Green Mattress review that the Kiwi has excellent motion transfer. It isn’t as good as the Pure Echo, meaning you’ll probably feel some motion if your partner is a restless sleeper, but it’s so minimal, it probably won’t disturb you (unless you’re a very sensitive, light sleeper).

Pros:

  • Good for children
  • One- and two-sided models
  • Comfortable and supportive
  • Good for all types of sleepers
  • Sleeps cool

Cons:

  • Adequate edge support, but not superb
  • Lightweight stomach sleepers might experience pressure

Kiwi Bunk Bed Mattress Features

My Green Mattress has adapted the Kiwi mattress to fit the 8″ requirement that the majority bunk beds have. The Kiwi Bunk Bed Mattress has shorter coils, but it’s exactly the same as the regular Kiwi Mattress in all other respects.

Emily Crib Mattress Features

Healthy sleep is a priority for every baby, and the Emily from My Green Mattress is a crib mattress that may be just what you need. It will allow your child to wake up refreshed, happy, and, most importantly, free from allergy-induced issues.

The mattress has a layer of breathable coconut coir, which is a firm and supportive, yet comfortable and pressure-relieving, pad made from organic coconut fibers bound together by natural latex.

The mattress is also double-sided and contains 150 innerspring coils. My Green crib mattress reviews claim that the coils offer supreme edge support, so your baby won’t roll off the edge and fall between the crib and the mattress. The strong edge will also come in handy once your baby starts standing and bouncing in the crib.

The mattress is pretty firm but comfortable, and the innerspring coils offer flexibility, which makes it easier for your baby to change positions and sleep comfortably on their belly without the mattress leaving an indent.

The Emily Mattress is standard crib size, so it should fit snugly in any crib.

Durability and Maintenance

Product Lifetime

Along with being some of the least toxic mattresses out there, the quality of the materials used by My Green means they should last a very long time. Dunlop latex is known for its durability, the coils in every My Green Mattress are individually protected, and the 20-year warranty is also reassuring.

Maintenance

We should note in our My Green Mattress review, the company doesn’t recommend machine-washing its mattresses’ covers because they could shrink. The best thing to do is use a mattress protector or topper that will shield your mattress not only from spills, but also from dust mites, bugs, and similar irritants.

In addition to this, My Green mattresses are designed to be one-sided and not flipped (with the exception of the two-sided Kiwi Mattress). Still, body impressions can form, so you should rotate the mattress every 3–4 months.

Customer Service

We found no complaints about the company’s customer service. According to many My Green Mattress reviews, the customer service is of great help both during and after the purchasing process. They’re very knowledgeable on all questions regarding their products, and they’re more than happy to assist you with any issues or questions you might have about your online mattress purchase.

You can give them a call, send an email, or start a live chat on their official website, or you can visit one of their showrooms if you don’t feel comfortable buying your mattress online.

Terms of Sale

Trial Period and Return Policy

Every mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial unless specified otherwise. My Green Mattress will ask you to sleep on your new mattress for at least 30 nights before you decide on returning it. All returned mattresses must be clean, so investing in a My Green mattress topper is probably a good idea, as you’ll be working with the company to donate the mattress to your local charity.

We should note that every household is eligible for only one return or exchange, and the company doesn’t accept exchanges for different sizes. If you still decide on a return, you’ll be fully refunded. Additionally, the return policy covers only mattresses bought directly from My Green Mattress.

Shipping Options

My Green Mattress offers free shipping via FedEx in the contiguous US, while there are additional shipping fees for Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada.

Once the company gets your order, they start hand-crafting your mattress, which arrives at your home in less than two weeks.

Reviews of My Green Mattress claim the mattresses are pretty heavy, so you’ll probably need a helper to move the mattress. Now, if you don’t want to bother with setting up the mattress yourself, or you don’t have the time or a helper, the company offers a white glove delivery service for a flat rate of $199. This includes the delivery and set-up of your new mattress and the removal of your old mattress, scheduled at your convenience.

Warranty

Beginning with the date of the purchase, your mattress is covered by a 20-year limited warranty. The warranty applies only to mattresses bought directly from My Green Mattress and covers specific issues.

For the first 10 years of the warranty, the company may either repair or replace the mattress at My Green’s cost, while for years 11 through 20, it may replace or repair the mattress at a certain cost to you.

Prices

As mentioned, these are practically the cheapest green mattresses out there, with each model available in up to seven sizes, all priced competitively.

The Kiwi Bunk Bed Mattress and Emily Crib Mattress are available only in one size and cost $599 and $289, respectively.

Now, these mattresses aren’t the cheapest on the market, but they’re the most affordable among eco-friendly, all-natural mattresses. My Green Mattress appreciates its customers, so it’s always worth checking the website for a discount code (at the time of writing this, there’s one available). Moreover, the company often has sales and discounts, and you can find an occasional My Green Mattress coupon.

FAQs

Does memory foam cause cancer?

Memory foam usually contains chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs)—such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), formaldehyde, benzene, methylene chloride, toluene, trichloroethane, naphthalene, and perfluorocarbons—that break down and cause off-gassing.

While this odor is unpleasant and may cause difficulty breathing, headaches, nausea, eye and throat irritation, and asthma, it usually wears off after a few days.

Some of the chemicals that cause mattress off-gassing are classified as carcinogens or potential carcinogens, but there are actually no scientific studies showing that memory foam is toxic or causes cancer.

Is My Green Mattress really non-toxic?

Along with being hand-crafted, all Green mattresses have the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification, meaning they’re made from organically grown, harvested, and processed materials made in an environmentally and socially responsible way. They’re labeled and stored in the company’s facility in a way that’s easily trackable.

Furthermore, the company also has a GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certification. This ensures that the latex used is harvested from the sap of organic rubber trees, processed in an organic and environmentally friendly way, and manufactured in a manner that meets organic standards.

Additionally, My Green Mattress is consistently audited to ensure that the company complies with certification standards, and the entire bed is GREENGUARD Gold

Can I sleep on this bed if I have a latex allergy?

The latex is covered with layers of wool and cotton, as we’ve seen in these My Green Mattress reviews, so there’s no direct contact with the skin. Most likely you can sleep on this bed since it’s extremely rare for people who have a latex allergy to get an allergic reaction from a latex mattress.

However, if you’re worried about your latex allergy, My Green Mattress can send you a sample of their latex foam so you can try it out (with your doctor’s permission).
