Fun fact: Nectar sold more than 100,000 mattresses in its first year of operations.
Doesn’t that sound amazing? That’s over 273 mattresses a day.
And we can safely assume that those are satisfied customers, considering they all had an opportunity to return their mattress in case they didn’t like it.
So let’s see what makes this mattress so popular.
In our Nectar mattress review, we won’t tell you what’s right for you. You have to decide for yourself, but we’ll give you all the necessary information to get a clear picture of this sleeping product.

Why Have We Decided to Review the Nectar Mattress?
Although Nectar is a young company, founded in 2017, it has quickly taken off and found its place among major competitors in the bed-in-a-box market. We couldn’t overlook this, so we had to take a closer look at the Nectar mattresses.
We were happy to find out that a reasonable price and high quality can go hand in hand. If you’re looking for a mattress made of superb foam materials that won’t cost you an arm and a leg, you should definitely consider the Nectar.
What grabbed our attention is that the Nectar doesn’t retain heat as much as other foam mattresses thanks to the gel memory foam quilted into its cover—which is often pointed out in other Nectar mattress reviews as well. The Nectar Lush also has excellent temperature regulation, but we’ll go into more detail a bit later on.
Another great thing is that they offer a 365-night trial period, so you have an entire year to test your mattress and see if it fits your needs. It seems that one of the Nectar’s major goals is to give their customers peace of mind, since their mattress also comes with a lifetime warranty. All these things were more than enough to include this mattress on our best mattresses list and write this comprehensive Nectar mattress review.

About Nectar Sleep
Nectar Sleep was founded in 2017 with a goal to make mattress shopping a pleasant experience. It seems that Nectar’s founders know exactly what people need as they sold over 100,000 only within their first year of business operation.
Today they offer two mattress models: the Nectar Mattress and the Nectar Lush Mattress. In addition, they sell bed frames, pillows, mattress protectors, and other sleep accessories.
Mattress Features
In the following few paragraphs of this Nectar mattress review, you can read more about the two mattress models by Nectar:
- The Nectar Mattress
- The Nectar Lush Mattress
Construction of the Nectar Mattress
The Cover
The first layer of this mattress is the cooling cover made of Tencel. This is a soft fabric made from wood cellulose, which lets the air freely flow inside and outside the mattress, drawing out the heat that usually accumulates between the sleeper’s body and the mattress. This cover maintains the optimal temperature for proper sleep. Resistant to bedbugs and similar micro-creatures, this cooling cover also ensures a hygienically safe environment.
The Second Layer
The second layer of the Nectar mattress is the quilted gel memory foam. More than one Nectar mattress review on Reddit claim that this special quilted coating provides additional comfort to its users, mostly thanks to the gel foam that has a significant cooling effect. All these features of the quilted gel layer ensure enhanced breathability for the entire mattress, as well as better comfort for your back.
The Comfort Layer
The half-open Lush Foam™ makes up the third layer of this mattress. It’s a gel foam blend that contains a variety of five patents, making it one of the most expensive foam types out there. In our review of the Nectar mattress, we noticed that the Lush Foam™ adds to the heat-removing process due to its special cooling and absorptive functions, ensuring a steady temperature throughout the mattress.
The Transition Layer
At the heart of this mattress lies its Adaptive Hi-Core Memory Foam. What’s so special about this type of foam is its weight and price. Since this foam is heavy, it requires special shipping conditions, which increases the price of its manufacture and delivery. Nevertheless, the guys at Nectar insist on using this type of foam, since it provides the best support for a wide range of pressure points.
The Mattress Base
The Nectar foundation layer is made of a dense but breathable foam, with an indentation load deflection (ILD) rating of 2.2+. The majority of other mattresses reach as high as 1.5 ILD. Being one of the hardest memory foams on the market, the lowest layer of this mattress can successfully hold the entire structure without limitations.
Construction of the Nectar Lush Mattress
- The Cover – Similarly to the Nectar mattress, the Nectar Lush features a cooling cover made of Tencel, a premium material well-known for its great temperature regulation. When we compared it to the Nectar mattress cover in our review, we noticed that it’s even more breathable.
- The Comfort Layer – This layer is made of memory foam, which is coated with cooling gel to further improve the mattress’s cooling features. The comfort layer is here to contour to a sleeper’s curves and provide pleasant pressure relief.
- The Transition Layer – Energex memory foam is of higher density and it offers some bounce. This way, it prevents a sleeper from sinking too deeply into the mattress.
- The Base Layer – High-density polyfoam is used to provide ample support to a sleeper and allow for deep, restorative sleep.
Comfort
When shopping for a new mattress, it’s crucial to pick the one that feels comfortable to you, meaning that it has the right firmness level, sinkage, and proper support.
So is the Nectar a firm mattress? Since this is a rather subjective matter, we employed a team of testers to give their opinion. Based on our findings, the Original Nectar can be found right in the middle of the firmness scale. Being a medium-firmness mattress, it’s a reasonable combination of comfort and durability that can adjust to every sort of body.
On the other hand, the Nectar Lush is a bit softer, and this is one of the major differences between the two models. Therefore, many side sleepers prefer this new version.
All the variations of the Nectar mattress are 11 inches thick, while the Lush mattress is only one inch thicker. That level of thickness and the layers of first-class memory foam provide ample support for sleepers of average weight, and even for those who are a bit heavier than average. Also, most customers who reviewed the Nectar mattress on Amazon agreed that its high-density base foam is supportive enough to keep the sleeper’s spine in perfect alignment.
However, as memory foam mattresses, both Nectar models offer a deeper hug, so you’ll feel like you’re sleeping in the mattress rather than on top of it. This supportive contouring can be great for back sleepers because the soft top layer fills in the space in their lumbar region. Also, side sleepers will like how the memory foam eliminates pressure in their shoulders and hips.
On the other hand, we wouldn’t recommend the Nectar to stomach sleepers because, in this sleeping position, it lets the hips sink in too deep, which may result in back pain. Also, according to some Nectar mattress complaints, some sleepers found changing positions a bit difficult due to its sinkage level.
Temperature Neutrality
Thanks to their five different layers and the several types of high-value memory foam inside them, Nectar mattresses have smooth air circulation. In turn, this ensures equally comfortable sleeping at any time of the year. In winter, they retain warmth to maintain the proper sleep temperature, while in summer they eliminate any surplus of heat, ensuring cool surroundings for pleasant summer-night sleeps.
Thanks to their breathable covers and the gel memory foam that regulates the mattress’s temperature, both Nectar models sleeps surprisingly cooler than other foam mattresses. If we quickly compare the Nectar vs Leesa, we can notice that the Leesa mattress doesn’t use any special cooling technique. Although its foam construction is quite breathable—you can read more about it in our Leesa review—the Nectar has better temperature control.
Edge Support
Unlike spring mattresses, some foam mattresses lack edge support. This is most obvious when two people are sleeping in the same bed. The great thing about this product, emphasized in nearly every Nectar mattress review, is that there’s almost no compression when you’re lying close to the edge. As for the edge support while sitting, there’s some minor edge sinkage. However, the Nectar is definitely above average in comparison to other foam mattresses.
Motion Transfer
If you’re looking for a mattress that absorbs motion transfer, the Nectar is the right choice for you. After testing these mattresses, we concluded that you can sleep on them with your partner and rest assured that you won’t feel too much movement.
Durability and Maintenance
Nectar mattresses are expected to last for years to come since they’re made of high-quality foam materials. Most Nectar mattress reviews on Amazon show that the Nectar has lived up to the customers’ expectations—they claim that now they can have a good night’s sleep at a great price. We also recommend the Nectar as one of the best cheap mattresses.
In order to prolong its lifespan and prevent indentations, you should rotate your mattress from time to time. However, don’t flip it because its carefully designed layers will lose their function. As far as cleaning is concerned, you can easily spot clean your mattress with some water and mild detergent. Although the mattress cover is removable, it’s not recommended that you take it off, which is one of the Nectar’s drawbacks. You can also use the Nectar mattress protector, which is 100% waterproof, to protect your mattress against stains. It’s one of the best mattress protectors you can find on the market.
Customer Service
The Nectar support team is available 7 days a week. If you have any questions or complaints, you can chat with them, call them, or send them an email. However, some customers haven’t been completely satisfied with Nectar’s customer service, so there’s some room for improvement.
Terms of Sale
When it comes to the trial period, they let you use the mattress all year long. If you’re not satisfied with it, you can return it at any given point within the 365-day period, starting from the day of purchase. The Nectar mattress return won’t cost you anything because the company will pay for the pickup and the transfer.
Shipping is also completely free of charge within the contiguous US. However, for white-glove delivery, you’ll have to pay $149. This fee covers the set-up of your new mattress and removal of the old one.
In order to prove how confident they feel about their product, the Nectar company came up with the Forever Warranty. If your mattress starts showing any malformations or problems, you have the right to contact them and see how they can help you with your problem. Some comments about the Nectar mattress on the BBB website stated that the mattress didn’t inflate evenly, so keep an eye out for that.
However, the warranty has certain conditions. During the first decade of ownership, you can ask for a replacement, and you’ll get a brand new mattress, given that the problem with your sample arose due to the materials or the workmanship. After that period, the manufacturer will repair, recover, or replace your Nectar mattress, including the transportation costs, if you discover an issue with the materials.
On the other hand, if the mattress has become defective due to bad maintenance or improper use, you might not be eligible to ask for a full warranty. Still, the outstanding warranty conditions show that the guys at Nectar really believe in their product.
The Nectar Mattress Price
The price of the Nectar varies from $524 for the twin mattress to $1,024 for the king and Cal king mattresses. The Nectar Lush is a bit pricier, from $1,099 to $1,799 depending on the size. These prices include shipping as well, which is a great advantage. We always recommend that you check the prices on the Nectar website since they often offer special deals that you don’t want to miss.
Also, a pretty affordable way to get your Nectar is to obtain a Nectar mattress coupon and purchase it with a discount. In case your budget doesn’t allow you to pay for the mattress at once, you can pay over time using Affirm’s services.
Who Should Buy the Nectar Mattress or the Nectar Lush Mattress?
- Hot sleepers: The additional cooling and heat-removing features of these mattresses will benefit hot sleepers. Compared to other memory foam mattresses, the Nectar mattresses don’t retain much heat.
- People with lower back pain: People suffering from lumbar pain will also find the Nectar models soothing for their back issues. Since they will smoothly contour to your body, they’ll ease your back pain. Many Nectar mattress reviews claim that no matter whether you lie on your back or side, the mattress alleviates pain in the lumbar region. As a result, you’ll sleep well and have more energy for your everyday challenges.
- Side sleepers: Thanks to the cushiony layer of memory foam, side sleepers won’t feel unpleasant pressure on their hips and shoulders.
- Couples: Great motion isolation and edge support make these mattresses a solid choice for couples. If you have a spacious bedroom, a high-quality king bed is the best option.
Who Should Look Elsewhere and Why?
- People who like soft mattresses: Some users on Amazon have reported that the Nectar Original mattress is too firm for them, so it might not be the best option for people who like soft and cushioned mattresses. Further, we’ve checked out some comments about the Nectar mattress on Reddit and found out that some pregnant women and people with shoulder problems didn’t like the firmness of this mattress. These groups of potential buyers, as well as other people with similar special conditions, might prefer the Nectar Lush.
- Stomach sleepers: Stomach sleepers might find the Nectar models uncomfortable since they don’t provide ample support for their hips. As a result, the mattresses may not keep their spine in proper alignment.
- People who need more bounce: The Nectar, like most memory foam mattresses, lacks bounce, so it doesn’t perform well during intimate moments. Also, combo sleepers might feel stuck while changing sleeping positions.
How Good Is a Nectar Mattress?
The company’s user-centric policy and the mattresses’ outstanding features are two strong reasons to purchase one of the two Nectar models. They will most certainly benefit people who like to sleep on memory foam mattresses. Also, those who suffer from lumbar pain could finally get some sleep on the Nectar mattress.
A large number of different sizes and additions to the mattress, such as the Nectar platform bed, will satisfy the most demanding buyers. Apart from that, the one-year trial period and flexible return policy also speak in favor of both the manufacturer and the mattress. All in all, these mattresses are a good value for the money, and we hope that our Nectar mattress review has presented all the benefits they can provide. Those of you who opt for a Nectar mattress will get a well-made, comfortable mattress at a reasonable price.

How Good Is a Nectar Mattress?
Get DealFAQs
How long will the Nectar mattress last?
Considering that the Nectar is relatively new to the market, it’s difficult to predict its lifespan. However, on the basis of the materials used, we assume that it can last at least 7–8 years before it should be replaced. Given that this mattress comes with a lifetime warranty, you don’t have to worry much about its durability.
Is the Nectar mattress good for back pain?
Yes, the Nectar can alleviate back pain because it provides ample support to the sleeper’s back and keeps the spine in perfect alignment if you sleep on your side or back. In addition, its top layers, made of memory foam, contour to the body, providing excellent pressure relief. That’s why it deserves a place on our top list of the best mattresses for back pain. However, people who prefer to sleep on their stomach won’t enjoy the Nectar that much as their hips may sink in too deep.
Is the Nectar mattress good for side sleepers?
The Nectar is great for side sleepers because its five layers are designed to maintain proper spine alignment while the memory foam top will provide a pleasant cushioning feel to pressure points, that is, the sleeper’s shoulders and hips. You can read more about the mattress’s construction above.
Is the Nectar mattress good for stomach sleepers?
The Nectar is not one of our top picks for stomach sleepers since they usually need a greater firmness level. As a memory foam mattress, the Nectar provides a greater hug, which is not suitable for this sleeping position. It’s likely that stomach sleepers will sink just too deeply into the mattress to be comfortable.
Do you need a box spring with a Nectar mattress?
The Nectar mattress can be placed on all kinds of bed bases, including box spring beds, adjustable bases, traditional frames, and platforms. This is totally based on your preferences.
Can you sleep on a Nectar mattress right away?
Yep, as soon as you unpack your Nectar mattress, you can sleep on it. However, it typically will take 24–72 hours to fully expand, so don’t worry if it doesn’t reach its standard 11 inches of thickness right away.
Is the Nectar mattress toxic?
The Nectar mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, meaning that it’s free of toxic substances, such as ozone depleters, toxic flame retardants, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and other harmful chemicals. Therefore, it’s safe both for your health and the environment. You can read more about the materials used above.
Does the Nectar smell when unboxed?
Some customers stated that they had noticed an unpleasant smell when they unpacked their mattress in their Nectar mattress reviews. Still, there’s nothing to worry about since that smell disappears after 24 hours.
Which is better, the Casper or Nectar mattress?
Both Casper and Nectar are high-quality all-foam mattresses, which provide exceptional pressure relief. The Casper offers zoned support and slightly less sinkage, so it’s better for combo sleepers. On the other hand, the Nectar has a typical memory foam feel with a high level of body contouring. Therefore, it’s a great pick for side sleepers.
Should I flip my Nectar mattress?
No, you shouldn’t flip a Nectar mattress because the order of its layers is designed to help you get a good night’s sleep. Each layer has its purpose, so if you turned a mattress upside down, it wouldn’t provide adequate support or pressure relief.
Does the Nectar mattress sleep cool?
Compared to other memory foam mattresses, the Nectar has good temperature control thanks to its breathable Tencel cover. Moreover, it has gel memory foam quilted into its cover, which will also reduce heat retention. Read more about the mattress’s temperature regulation in our in-depth Nectar mattress review above.
